Should an application simply written for the Internet get a patent? People are readily getting patents for things software developers think as natural ways of doing things. I do not know where you stand on these types of issues, but I think we are in a crisis. So, you can imagine how pleased I was that Shalom volunteered to help out. He is a registered patent agent and will sort this all out for us. This will be good as I recently read up on the subject and I have to admit I am baffled. There are two sessions. The first session in September will be an overview of the patent process and intellectual property protection in general. The second session in October will come from you and be focused on issues specific to software patents (his specialty). Dust off that entrepreneurial dream, bring your deepest concerns and Shalom will tailor it all to you. Talk about personal training. It doesn't get any better. As this is so important to us, please send in your questions if you will be out-of-town for the first session. I will pass them on. This session is suitable for everyone. Let your manager know about it and otherwise pass this notice on. 2. Well, what an August: We have superb VB, ASP and Office presenters yet we can't do it all in one evening. In short we have outgrown our britches. So, I tried to interest Microsoft in taking over those sections of neSOFTdev. I must be loosing my touch. I can't even sell my sole to the devil. We are now simply a Java group. 3. We perhaps might get the overview from the previous winners, but the feedback I am getting is that the MindQ Java training CDs ($1-2,000 worth) are superb. I have a raffle for September and October. 4. Think I was impressed with our July speaker - you bet. But, these Perl programmers have done it again. I just got wind of a Geek Cruise (www.geekcruises.com). Cool! I have been talking about neat things for many years, but these people put it all together and are doing it. So, we have some planning to do for our 10th Anniversary. Please help organize our event. And, yes I am looking for someone to lead neSOFTdev in the new millennium. Make our neSOFTdev 2000 bash successful and it is all yours. 5. Both Addison-Wesley and O'Reilly have great August Java selections. We will be using several starting in November. Anyone up for teaching an Intro and/or Advanced Java series? How about Java look and feel? 6.
