Date: Fri, 10 Sep 1999 11:04:25 -0400 From: "Lisa L. Hall" Subject: Access Day - 9/15/99 Hello Everyone- Next Wednesday, September 15th is Access Day! The program, which starts at 9 AM and goes until 8:30 PM, will have something useful for all skill levels. As usual, it will be at the Microsoft Building in Waltham, MA. Attendance is free and no reservations are required. For more information call Rick at 978-749-9600 or visit www.lunasystems.com. Here's what the day looks like: (times are approximate and may change without notice) 9 AM - 12 PM Intro Session Your host will be: John Giuliano Of Stone-Crowne Associates Stone-Crowne@msn.com You've read the marketing hype and the magazine reviews, but still wonder: How do I use Microsoft Access 2000 to make myself more productive? Basic database concepts will be covered during this session with a focus on building your first Access database application. A simple Contact Event manager will be developed during this session to demonstrate the various components (Tables, Queries, Forms, and Reports) available to the new use. Whether you are new to databases or just new to Access there will be plenty of useful information to help you develop your own applications. Time will be left at the end for questions and answers. 1 PM - 4 PM Intermediate Session Your host will be: John Giuliano Of Stone-Crowne Associates Stone-Crowne@msn.com Methods, Properties and Events. Find out how you can use Access controls and forms to do what you want them to by using Access' built-in customizing features. Examined will be properties for Access controls (i.e. Text, List, and Combo boxes) that can be set even while your application is running. Want to change the caption on a Command button? Or change the background color of the currently active text box? How about modifying the list of values in a List box based on your end user's choices? These and many other useful techniques will be demonstrated. Questions are encouraged during this session. 5:30 PM - 8:30 PM User Group Meeting The evening user group is devoted to the presentation of topics and ideas for the experienced developer. Nothing is more professionally valuable than seeing how others have addressed the solution of a problem, and networking with other professionals. For about the first 1/2 hour or so you are invited to ask Access related questions. 6:30 - 7:00 Jackie Grubb of Plum Suite Solutions Access 2000 has promised many practical features to expand the capabilities of both developers and users. Jackie has been using Access 2000 as a development platform for both Access 97 and 2.0 apps. She credits Tech Net, a Microsoft subscription service, with helping her to master this technology. She will pass on some of the techniques that will save countless hours for serious practitioners. 7:00 - 7:30 Harry Walden of Mware, Inc. Harry will demonstrate the use of Active Data Pages, and the requirements over and above installation of IE 5 for an internet application. He will bring along a virgin laptop, load it up, and demonstrate in real time the use of ADPs with Access 2000 as the back end. 7:30 - 8:30 Rick Lunetta of Luna Systems Corporation Rick will be discussing multi-tiered/DNA applications focusing on performance and architectural design issues. Creating the software is only half the solution. He'll take an in depth look at the other pieces you'll need to know to be a successful developer of these types of applications. Hope to see you there! If you have any questions about this or other User Group Meetings, call Rick at Luna Systems Corporation or visit our website at http://www.lunasystems.com. Have a great day!
