Date: Wed, 3 Nov 1999 22:14:46 -0500 (EST) From: Mary Hopkins Subject: [Boston-voice-users] MEETING 11/9/99 The next meeting of Boston Voice Users will be on Tuesday, 11/9/99, 7:30 p.m., MIT room 2-135 (directions at end of this message). Joel Gould will give a talk on advanced command and control techniques for Dragon NaturallySpeaking. Specifically, Joel will introduce his "NatLink" package which provides an interface between Dragon NaturallySpeaking and the Python programming language. NatLink allows users of Dragon NaturallySpeaking to write significantly more sophisticated macros then are possible using the built-in scripting language from Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional. It works with all versions and editions of Dragon NaturallySpeaking, and exposes capabilities beyond those available in the shrinkwrap product. Although writing macros is like programming, Joel will not assume that people are familiar with the Python programming language or programming in general. Through examples, Joel will demonstrate how programmers and non-programmers can write sophisticated macros using NatLink and Python. The session will consist of a mix of information, some suitable for non-programmers and others requiring more sophisticated background. NatLink is currently available from Joel Gould's web site http://www.synapseadaptive.com/joel/default.htm. Visiting the web site before the talk is not required but may be helpful for people so that they can formulate questions to ask. If people are interested in solving specific problems, they can send Joel an e-mail in advance of the meeting. This will give Joel some ideas for specific topics to discuss. Joel Gould is currently the Director of Emerging Technologies of Dragon Systems. Joel's job is to invent and develop new products using speech recognition for Dragon Systems. Joel is most well-known as the architect and lead engineer for Dragon NaturallySpeaking; however, Joel was also the architect and lead engineer for DragonDictate for Windows. Joel's latest product is Dragon NaturallySpeaking Mobile Organizer (originally called NaturallyOrganized). Joel Gould can be reached at joelg@alum.mit.edu.
