Date: Wed, 24 Nov 1999 13:57:07 -0800 From: "Long, Mike" Subject: Reminder: SWEQSIG: 11/30/1999 - CSQE Certification Overview *** NOTE! This meeting is NOT at Adaptec, but at St. Anselm's in Manchester. Please read the directions! *** *** I've added an update to the directions *** Topic: CSQE Certification Overview Presenter: John Pustaver Date & Time: Tuesday 11/30/1999, 7:30-9pm Where: St. Anselm's College, Manchester NH This presentation will focus on the CSQE (Certified Software Quality Engineer) certification of the American Society for Quality. John will discuss the requirements for taking the exam, the exam format, scoring of the exam, the CSQE body of knowledge, and the value of being certified. We will also look at some sample questions of the type that appear on the exam. John will also briefly discuss the Cerified Computing Professional exam of the Institute for the Certification of Computing Professionals and ASQ's Certified Quality Engineer certification. John Pustaver, President of Creative Data Systems is an ASQ (American Society for Quality) Certified Software Quality Engineer, an ASQ Certified Quality Engineer, and an ICCP Certified Computing Professional. He has over 30 years of experience as a software developer, development manager, quality manager and consultant. John began training software inspection leaders at Prime Computer in 1984 and now specializes in inspection training. He was the conference chair for the 9th International Conference on Software Quality (Oct. 1999, Cambridge, Massachusetts), is Associate Editor of the journal Software Quality Professional, founder/director of the Boston area Software Quality Group and has been the ASQ Software Division Region I (New England) councilor since 1994. If you take the first entrance you would need to take a right immediately after the church and this road circles around the next couple of buildings. This road turns back to the left and you follow it to a stop sign. Continue to the left at this first stop sign down a hill to a second stop sign. Diagonally off to your right at that stop sign is the Dana Center. There is a third road between the two entrances which has a do not enter sign. DO NOT THINK that this is the second entrance. If you enter from the second entrance (which is probably easier to find the Dana Center), follow the road which does seem to split at a fork shortly after entering. However, at that fork you are not allowed to turn right. Continue on the road around a curve and down a small hill. After reaching the bottom of the hill, the first building on your left is the Dana Center. At the Dana Center, enter through the main entrance and turn left. After a set of doors, the conference room is the first room on your left. *** UPDATE TO ABOVE DIRECTIONS *** Note - I had asked a friend to "drive the directions", since I don't live up that way. Following is the useful excerpt from his response: After you go through the traffic lights at the 101 & 114 intersection head towards the 2nd set of lights from this intersection. At 1st light you will see a Bedford Miniature Golf center on your right. Go through this set of lights and go to the next set of lights. Pay no attention to the yellow blinking light that you will pass on your way to the 2nd set of lights At the 2nd set of lights take a right. Exactly 9 tenths to 1mi :-) from this intersection / lights you will take right into St A's campus. It's the 3rd right into the campus. The 2nd right actually is an exit and you cannot enter it. There is a telephone pole with a brown "Dana Center " sign on it. Take a right here. I wouldn't bother telling people about the 1st entrance to St A's, I would tell them it's the 3rd entrance on your right and about 1 mile from the intersection. The first intersection is 6 tenths of a mile. The rest of the directions of going around a curve and up a hill are right on. **** These seminars are FREE and we encourage your attendance. All presenters and coordinators are volunteers who appreciate your presence. ============================== Meetings are the last Tuesday of the month - starting again in September Future meetings: * December - time off for the holidays * Tuesday January 25th, 2000 Johanna Rothman - Inch Pebbles Title: How to Use Inch-Pebbles When You Think You Can't Abstract: Inch-pebbles, or miniature milestones, are defined as a best practice, but they're not frequently used. As a consequence, our projects are more delayed, and have fewer features, and more defects than we prefer. But while inch-pebbles may be a best practice, they're not commonly used. Sometimes, people don't want to use inch-pebbles. Sometimes it's hard to figure out how to use them. Nevertheless, while inch-pebbles may not be completely appropriate for every projects phase, every project can benefit from inch-pebbles at some point in its duration. Inch-pebbles are useful when you know what you have to do. This presentation will discuss how to plan the project when you don't know everything you have to do.
