Date: Mon, 10 May 1999 16:06:41 -0400 From: "Jon 'maddog' Hall, USG Senior Leader" Subject: GNHLUG meeting, May 12th, Morse Hall, Room 301 from 7 P.M. to whatever Between our discussions of GNU/Linux and other topics, I have put together our next meeting. It will be a dreadfully boring presentation on Enterprise Computing and whether Linux is ready for such a task. This talk is based on a report recently released by D.H. Brown, a technical industry analyst firm where they compared major commercial Unix systems with WNT and Linux. You can expect to get out of this presentation: a description of what industry means when they say "enterprise computing" an overview of the D.H. Brown report a synopsis of where the Linux community is in addressing some of these issues The reason why this presentation is so boring is because it will be given by none other than Jon "maddog" Hall, whose reputation as a speaker who can put people to sleep is well known. In a desperate attempt to attract attendees, Mr. Hall will be giving away boxed copies of SuSE 6.0, copies of SuSE 6.1 Beta for the Alpha system, copies of Caldera's newest Intel distribution (where you play Tetris while you install it) and copies of Red Hat Linux 5.2 (left over from the NUN meeting). Finally, this will be the last meeting of the year in Durham. We will be migrating to Nashua, NH for the summer months, returning to the campus when school starts up again. md =============================================================================== Non-Richly-Formatted Directions to Morse Hall: Proceed to University of New Hampshire, on Rt. 155A in Durham, New Hampshire Coming in from Route 4 you will be entering the town from the west..
