Date: Tue, 11 May 1999 21:21:35 -0700 From: "Robert J. Young" Subject: Meeting of Access/VB User Group in the Portsmouth Area Hello - We have User Groups in a number of towns - if you are not interested in the Portsmouth area group, please excuse the interruption, let us know, and we will take your name off our list. Other possiblities are Nashua and Waltham. Otherwise, we will have a Microsoft Access/Visual Basic meeting on Tuesday, May 18, 1999, you're welcome to come, and we're anxious to have your input. What would you like to see in the way of future programs? For example, in Waltham, the Microsoft Access User Group sponsors Access Days. From 9 to 12 in the AM is the beginners program - from 1 to 4:30 is the intermediate where different aspects of Access are covered - and from 5:30 to 8:30 is the developers program. Each program offers ample time for networking and Q&A. We are starting our program here, just 5.3 miles south of the Portsmouth Traffic Circle, at 216 Lafayette Road, featuring networking, Q&A, collaboration, and demos. Please submit your ideas for presentations. It's good for you to stand up in front of an audience. Program: Networking and the exploration of future meeting topics will begin the evening. Then a quick example will help beginners understand some of the powerful capabilities of Access. A short discussion on how to get started will follow. For the intermediate developer, we will demonstrate the use of list boxes and the power of the multi-select property. Examples will be taken from: a library reading registration system that tracks attendance and produces various reports For experienced developers we will demonstrate Microsoft Office Automation and the use of bookmarks to run Microsoft Word directly from an Access Contact Manager - If anyone has a client server or neat web application, maybe an n-tier, please let us know so that we can plan a future meeting. Bring Your Problems - Last time an attendee had questions relating to scaling from Access 97 to SQL Server 7 - there happened to be a very experienced developer in the crowd - a developer who is helping to deploy a total SQL 7 application worldwide for a government agency - (servers and hundreds of laptop clients at remote sites). And that's what it's all about - As time progresses and we attract enough repeat members, we will be able to improve our programming. We have offers from Microsoft to give presentations on just about anything. Office 2000 is a possibility if there's enough interest there. Contact: Please call Bob Young at (603) 929-7964 or e-mail rjyoung@javanet.com if you have any questions or comments. Thank you.
