Date: Thu, 6 May 1999 16:42:16 -0400 From: "Lisa L. Hall" Subject: Access/Client Server User Group Meeting - 5/12/99 Hi Everyone, First things first. We have a new venue for our Access Client/Server User Group. Instead of New Horizons, starting May 12 (the next meeting), we will be meeting in the After Hours Café at Daniel Webster College in Nashua (directions below). We're hoping that the new venue will increase attendance with it's informal atmosphere, enhanced presentation format, and student participation. Coffee will be provided at the meeting. We've packed the agenda this month with 3 presentations. Two presentations deal with Access applications written to facilitate office automation and the third is a project presentation by 2 DWC students. Here is our agenda for Wednesday night: Announcements and Question & Answers: 5:30 - 6:30 PM If you have any announcements you'd like to make to the group... Need a job, have a job?... Stand up and be heard. Also the floor is open to any Access, SQL, or general programming questions you may have. Main Presentations (times subject to change without notice): Aprox. 6:30 - 7:00 PM "Work Order & Management System" Presented By: Sabrina Beach and Jeff Rutledge (candidates for the DWC Information System B.S. degree) Daniel Webster College uses MS Access as the demonstration language in their Database I and II courses. Students taking the Database II course are required to do a "real-world" project using MS Access. Sabrina and Jeff will present their Work Order and Management System project. The audience will be asked to suggest "tricks-of-the-trade" to enhance the student's knowledge of MS Access in a business environment. Approx. 7:00 - 7:30 PM "Attendance & Registration Application" Presented By: Bob Young of Summit Computing Associates A public library in New Hampshire wanted to plan, monitor, and conduct their reading programs for toddlers through fifth grade in an organized fashion. In addition, the federal government requires annual attendance data that was difficult to obtain. Microsoft Access was used to provide a solution that was quick and easy to use. With the help of list boxes, attendance keeping and registration became very fast and efficient. Approx. 7:30 - 8:00 PM "Dynamic Documents" Presented By: Mike Farnworth of Standard I/O, Portland, ME At an insurance company, the mainframe department was unable to respond in a timely fashion to sales requirements. Mike used Microsoft Office Automation to merge address blocks and policy information into editable dynamic documents. Microsoft Access and book marks played a critical role in this success story. Please visit our website http://www.lunasystems.com for additional information about this and other New England area user groups. We hope you can attend and look forward to seeing you there!
