From: John Barrie To: 'cone-cal@blu.org' Subject: NESOFTDEV: new Mar 9 meeting focus Date: Monday, March 08, 1999 1:38 PM TO: NESOFTDEV March 9 Meeting Change 1) (March 9, 5:30 p.m.) Allen Beebe 2) (March 9, 6 p.m.), Stephen Daukas and the Java Working Group 3) I-Kinetics has other plans 4) 9 Hillside Security ***** 1) Allen will show off a Java app that he was involved in making. One of Allen's specialties is Help so this should fill in the pieces on this topic nicely. 2) This is a hard core learn Java fundamentals (actually, the book will be a fairly good learn on object oriented programmming and general programming fundamentals). The more intense we can get the better! The purpose of this working group is to share experiences. This is not a tutorial, seminar or instructor lead anything. We will be working on an extreme schedule. We assume you have read the books and written the code before coming to class. This will probably require additional evening meetings after the April meeting and is a series. Miss it and you loose buckwheat! Do it and the rewards are very high! The Books: March 9: Java For The World Wide Web by Doris Smith. April 13, May 11 and June 8: Thinking In Java by Bruce Eckel. www.bruceeckel.com 3) Well, it hasn't happened in nine years, and how ironic, I said no to another really big opportunity because of Brians offer of doing the next 3 sessions. Here is the email I received. Unfortunately it is too late to do anything as I am just starting to get back into the swing of things. This is actually good news as I had crunched a lot into the one evening. This way we can really get into #2. We will simply offer more learning, more time to work on issues and perhaps minimize the need to meet more often. Hi John, Sorry for the late notice, but our scheduled speaker for the user group meeting tomorrow, Ted Morin, had his schedule changed on him tomorrow. Unfortunately, he will be doing a half day workshop from 5 to 9 PM for a consulting firm. Originally, this was scheduled for 1 to 5 PM, with Ted then speaking for your group at 8 PM. My apologies for the last minute notice, but this just happened this morning. I spent this morning trying to find an alternative speaker for Ted, but our consultants are offsite and I am going to be in Washington DC tomorrow, and Product Development is in the final two weeks of a product release. Sincerely, Brian Cottman 4) We were plagued last year by people telling people coming to our meeting that we didn't exist. And, I have just heard that security at 9 Hillside now locks the door early. So please come early until we find out what the scoop is, park in the garage and use the elevators to the 1st floor cafeteria of 9 Hillside Ave., Waltham, MA, exit 27a 128/95
