Date: Thu, 15 Jul 1999 12:33:48 -0700 From: "Robert J. Young" Subject: Meeting of Access/VB User Group in North Hampton SUBJECT: Seacoast Microsoft Access User Group - Alternatives to On-Line Systems Time and Place: July 20, 1999 from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM at 216 Lafayette Road at the Key Computer Learning Center, across from Abercrombie and Fitch Restaurant, North Hampton, NH - 5.5 Miles south of the Portsmouth Traffic Circle on Route 1 (5.5 miles north of Rte 101 in Hampton). Attendance is free, and no reservations are required. Program: Networking and Q&A are an important feature beginning promptly at 5:30, followed by presentations. To eliminate re-entering data which invariably introduced mistakes, a multi-store cell-phone company needed a means for electronically transferring serial numbers of delivered phones to its stores, where Quickbooks was being used for point-of-sale. A multi-store book seller had a similar requirement, having to re-enter data from Excel spreadsheets in order to perform database analysis. Floppy disks and a customized solution using Excel as the front end for Microsoft Access provided a timely answer for the book store. For the cell-phone company, a floppy disk was included with the shipment, part of a methodology to establish responsibility and accountability. In each case, a user friendly Microsoft Access program was developed to complete the transfer and solve other business problems.
