Date: Wed, 14 Jul 1999 14:37:47 -0400 From: Kristen Vachon Subject: Access Day - 7/21/99 Hello Everyone- Next Wednesday, July 21, 1999 is Access Day! The program, which starts at 9 AM and goes until 8:30 PM, will have something useful for all skill levels. As usual, it will be at 9 Hillside Drive in Waltham, MA in the Interleaf Microsoft Office Building. Attendance is free and no reservations are required. For more information call Lisa at 978-749-9600 or visit www.lunasystems.com. Heres what the day looks like: (times are approximate and may change without notice) 9 AM - 12 PM Intro Session This session is specifically tailored for those new to using Microsoft Access 2000 on developing customized database applications. John Guiliano of Stone-Crowne Associates will introduce attendees with the primary components of an Access database: Tables, Queries, Forms, and Reports. During the morning, a simple application will be built to demonstrate how these components are brought together to create a functional application. To assist in the process, a number of Wizards will be demonstrated. Although Access 2000 will be used for demonstration, the majority of the features are available in all versions of Access. 1 PM - 4PM Intermediate Session The afternoon session will highlight the use of the powerful querying features of Access 2000 in forms and reports. John Guiliano will cover different types of queries available to the user: Select, Delete, Update, Maketable, and Append. The use of built-in Access functions and the ability to include parameters from forms and input boxes will also showcase the enhancements that queries make available to your application. During the sessions, these methods will be used to extend the functionality of the application built during the morning session. 5:30 PM - 8:30 PM User Group Meeting The evening user group is devoted to the presentation of topics and ideas for the experienced developer. Nothing is more professionally valuable than seeing how others have addressed the solution of a problem, and networking with other professionals. Failure to manage a library of reference texts, documents, and various articles, causes many companies to repeat tasks needlessly, creating inefficiencies and ineffectiveness. Jill Miller of Miller Microcomputer Services will demonstrate how her company uses Microsoft Access to solve information storage and retrieval issues. For the enterprise that has grown is spurts, various technologies come to exist on the intranet. Averill Bromfield of AVEnet Network Services will demonstrate Access-based software and techniques for mapping the network, identifying NT servers, routers, gateways, etc. Any hardware that subscribes to SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) can be identified. This would include NT workstations and servers. Hope to see you there!
