Date: Sun, 17 Jan 1999 22:53:44 -0500 From: Steven Allen Subject: Boston Windows User Group January 25 Meeting Monday, January 25, 1999 ------------------------- INF files and Speech Recognition (Cont'd) ========================================= Boston Windows User Group ------------------------- 7:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. Speakers at 8:00 --------------------- Chris Lee discusses the interrelationship between INF files, your hardware, your Registry and your user experience. He explains the basic structure of INF files, how they work, how Windows reads them and what it does as a result. Chris uses Modem and Plug and Play INF files as examples. Speech Recognition is a continuation of the November 97 and July 98 meetings - please see http://www.bwug.org for background info. Peter Fleming, the speaker, is an independent consultant and author specializing in speech technology. He demos a new version of L&H's Voice Xpress, as well as various versions of Dragon, IBM, and Philips products. (Steve saw an impressive demo of L&H by Peter last week.) Peter will also show and discuss hand-held dictation devices that can off-load to a computer-based speech recognition system. Location: Microsoft's Multipurpose Room, 6th floor, 230 Third Ave, Waltham, MA, which has Parking and has Wheelchair access. Bad Weather: Look at http://www.bwug.org for a change in the "traffic light" associated with the meeting - it's green for go, yellow for caution and red for cancel. Alternately call Microsoft NE's Events phone 800-448-9560, which will carry a cancellation announcement. Directions: Take Route 95/128 to Exit 27A. Go south on Third Ave passing between the northbound 95/128 and the Westin Hotel. Reaching Third Ave requires a U-turn to the right from the northbound 95/128 exit or a "cross the overpass and turn right" from the southbound 95/128 exit. From Third Ave, turn left onto Fourth Ave immediately after the Westin. Go to end, turn right and follow signs for Prospect Place. Bear right at the fork and follow signs to Visitor Parking. Lobby is on second floor. Also see map on http://www.bwug.org/events. ***************************************************************** ****** Join the speakers for a Dutch Treat Dinner. ****** ****** Meet us at Bertucci's Restaurant at 5:30. ****** ****** It's in the small strip mall diagonally across ****** ****** the 95/128 intersection with Winter St ****** ****** from the meeting location. We reviewed the previous version in our September 97 meeting. McAfee Office has the familiar VirusScan as well as Nut&Bolts, UnInstaller and a number of other, previously independent, utilities. The evaluations and the presentations are by BWUG members. ***** NOTICE ***** We (BWUG) need to lighten our workload. Our primary "product" is the monthly meeting and the resulting Meeting Notes posted on our web site. We will therefore no longer accept membership from outside our geographic region and will send notices to and remove current out-of-region members from our rolls. They, and anyone else, can view meeting notes on our web site. ****** HELP ****** If your email address, phone number(s) or mailing address change, please go to our "Join" form: http://www.bwug.org/join and give us updates. Choose the "changes" option at the top of the form. The number of bad email addresses has overwhelmed us.
