The next meeting of Boston Voice Users will be Tuesday, August 10,

Ted Dimon, an Alexander teacher, will be talking about:

"Alexander Technique and the Use of the Voice"

Most vocal difficulties stem, not from something physical wrong with the
voice, but from harmful vocal habits. The Alexander Technique is a
practical method for learning to recognize and prevent these harmful
habits, which in turn allows the voice to function freely and naturally. In
this talk, Ted Dimon will discuss some basic principles of voice and
breathing and explain how the Alexander Technique, which has been widely
used by professional singers and actors for decades, can be applied to
voice recognition so that the voice can be used with a minimum of strain.

Ted Dimon, Ed.D.  is the Director of the Dimon Institute for the Alexander
Technique in Davis Square, Somerville.  He received his certification to
teach the Alexander Technique from the Constructive Teaching Centre in
London, England in 1983 and his Doctorate in Education from Harvard
University in 1987. Dr. Dimon is a founding director of the American
Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique and served as its first
President from 1987-89. He is the author of The Undivided Self- Alexander
Technique and the Control of Stress, and lectures widely on the Technique.

Directions to room: Go in the main door of MIT, at 77 Mass. Ave. Go
straight down the Infinite Corridor for as long as you can. When forced to
turn, go right. You'll pass one intersection decorated with murals of
jungle animals, hallway to library on your left, stairs on your right.
2-135 is a couple of doors further along on the left.  For wheelchair
access: use the door at 33 Mass Ave, toward the River from the main door.
