Young" Subject: Meeting of Access/VB User Group in North Hampton Press Release for the Business Calendar August 13, 1999 SUBJECT: Microsoft Access User Group Time and Place: August 17, 1999 from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM at 216 Lafayette Road at the Key Computer Learning Center, across from Abercrombie and Finch Restaurant, North Hampton - 5.7 Miles south of the Portsmouth Traffic Circle on Route 1 (5.3 miles north of Hampton). Call Bob Young at 603-929-7964 for information. Attendance is free, and no reservations are required. Background: We start at 5:30 with networking and general discussion - attendees can bring up topics of concern, questions, announcement, etc. For the program, we note that Microsoft Access is a perfect platform for developing manufacturing systems, and at the same time is so flexible that it can be used to productize applications for mass distribution. You will see data instantly scanned into an Access or Excel data field using a CCD bar code scanner and subject to availability, other input devices as well. Program: While talking with a recent prospect, they mentioned wanding-in serial number data for inventory receipts. Since it is always nice to be familiar with client technology, we have made arrangements to demonstrate a variety of data input devices. Martindale Associates of North Reading specializes in factory floor applications for the AS-400, and will provide us with various devices to demonstrate interfacing with the PC, Microsoft Access, and Excel. Subject to availability, included in the demonstration will be bar code readers, magnetic card readers, combination input stations, and other types of data-entry stations that have been hardened for use on the factory floor and hostile environments. With the click of the button you will see data instantly imported into an Access or Excel data field. Our second presenter, Warren Mackensen, will discuss some of the techniques used to convert an Access investment tracking system to CD-ROM for mass distribution, with special emphasis on updating to Access 2000. Contact: Please call Bob Young at (603) 929-7964 if you have any questions. Thank you.
