Date: Sun, 11 Apr 1999 14:27:08 -0400 From: John Barrie Subject: NESOFTDEV: meeting update NESOFTDEV April 13 Meeting Update Location: Cafeteria at Prospect Place Ground Floor 9 Hillside Ave. Waltham, MA, Exit 27a, 128/90 Contact: JohnBarrie@compuserve.com I have just cleaned out my NESOFTDEV corner and found some goodies. So, we will be giving away the most powerful Java development solution for databases at the April 13 meeting. That is a cool $800 bucks of it. The others will be given away at the next 2 meetings. More importantly come at 6:30 p.m. and/or 7:30 p.m. and support our trainers. I have seen their work and it shows that they have put in the hours for you. Their presentations will be sequential so you do not want to miss any. And, where else can you get 2 no vendors bull training sessions of this caliber with the personal attention to boot! The May 6th meeting is on. I have the most noted UML guru coming to speak. Please keep the evening open. More details will follow. Please email the meeting notice to others or post it on your office boards. I have included the notice for your convenience. TO: NESOFTDEV April 13 Meeting Location: Cafeteria at Prospect Place Ground Floor **** 9 Hillside Ave., Waltham, MA, Exit 27a, 128/90 Contact: JohnBarrie@compuserve.com 1) Computerworld - March 29,1999 2) 6:30 p.m., Stephen Daukas and the Java Working Group 3) 7:30 p.m., Andy Novick - A Live Visual Basic Project 4) Thanks 5) Nashoba Wineries 6) May 6th 7) $5 8) Volunteers 9) Membership ***** 1) "JAVA, VISUAL BASIC SEEN AS LANGUAGES OF FUTURE, This is NESOFTDEV! (and hopefully you) 2) The Best of Eckel, Steve will present the essence of Chapter 1-5 in Thinking In Java by Bruce Eckel. www.bruceeckel.com This is code, concepts and insight galore! 3) "Live Projects" - remember the learning, the excitement and the sharing of ideas? Well, "Live Projects" are alive and well once again at NESOFTDEV. This is not fluff, not a vendor message, not a company advertisement nor the road to enlightenment. It is simply the real thing - live. Andy will guide us through the development of the new NESOFTDEV web site. The themes are DHTML and Web Classes. What better way is there to learn this stuff and/or share your expertise. 4) Congratulations Alan! Congratulations Andy! Congratulations Stan! Congratulations Steve! In volunteering you are making us all better people. Thanks, the world needs you for sure. 5) Andy, Steve and I held a strategy meeting at Nashoba Wineries. I don't know if it was a meeting of the minds or the prospect of a Strawberry Crepe, but we really tore through the issues. It was so productive that we decided to make the restaurant our unofficial headquarters. Well, we have a vision that will unfold over the next several months and into our 10th Anniversary year. Can you believe it - some of you have been with me for 10 years. Phew! Hope you can join us for the strategy meetings some time. You are always welcome you know. I have to try the other deserts so count me in! Do I hear a deca- celebration is in the works!! What is a celebration of 10 years called anyway? And, what would we programmers par excellence have to do for an encore? Gad, I think I am up for that crepe! Anyway, it seems to us that one tool, one vendor, one platform, one of anything just will not do it ever again. Indeed, it hasn't for some time now. So in the 1999-2000 season NESOFTDEV will concentrate on providing multiple frameworks at each meeting ending with a congealing of the issues session. This is hot stuff. Sure there will be those who mimic us, but NESOFTDEV will make it happen. Although we are a little rusty not having met for a while, I have not lost my focus on you. We will do our best to blur the distinction between the new to and the professional programmer as this is where the best learning takes place. And, give me any feedback you can, anytime. 6) I have a tentative international guest coming May 6th. Stay tuned. 7) A donation of $5 for the meetings is new, but long overdue. 8) Keep your eyes open for good presenters of things of the Internet. I am looking for web application design and development people to join us. And, if that is you step forward. 9) Email this to several people please
