Presentation Abstracts & Speaker Bios An approach to using COM in the implementation of Business Objects and Data Objects. Bob Donald, Ontos Today’s applications are moving towards supporting an N-Tiered architecture (if they are not there already). Bob Donald will discuss the roles of Business Objects and Data Objects within an application and how COM and MTS can be used to bring them into the N-Tiered arena. This is a technical discussion about issues such as distributed components, transactions, scalability, deployment, and statefull vs stateless objects in support of an N-Tiered architecture. Biography Bob Donald is a Senior Software Architect with ONTOS, Inc., a leading provider of component-based application development solutions. He has nine years of software engineering experience in building 3-tier applications and developing component-based solutions in COM and CORBA. Donald was the Principal Software Engineer at True Software, Inc., before joining ONTOS. He also held Software Architect and Senior Software Architect positions at Epsilon Data Management, Inc. and Marketmax, Inc./Green Mars Software, Inc., respectively. Donald earned a bachelor of science degree in Computer Science, with a minor in Business Administration, from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell. This is Your Brain on COM. Jonathan Borden, JABR Technology DCOM for telemedicine consultations including DCOM/MTS techniques to move multimedia around. Biography: Jonathan Borden M.D. President, JABR Technology Corp, 21 School Street, Boston MA Attending Neurosurgeon, New England Medical Center and Beth-Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery, Tufts University School of Medicine, Boston M.D. Yale University, School of Medicine, 1988 B.A.(Neuroscience) Amherst College, 1984 My background includes AI and imaging technologies applied to brain modeling and analysis of 3D neural imaging data. JABR was founded to help medical specialists communicate clinical information over computer networks. The object oriented multimedia communications system is developed on a COM/MTS framework. JABR has recently introduced the "New England Neurosurgical Network" which is a secure, high-speed, Internet based network linking Boston hospitals and neurosurgeons to provide rapid and accurate diagnosis of brain and spinal cord problems.
