Date: Tue, 3 Nov 1998 17:05:18 -0500 (EST) From: Mary Hopkins Subject: MEETING 11/10 BVU's next meeting will be Tuesday, 11/10, 7:30 p.m., MIT 2-135. Our presenter will be Kate DeVore, a speech pathologist. "Kate DeVore works as a speech pathologist specializing exclusively in voice disorders at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. She is also a voice, speech and dialect coach for theatre productions and private students, and she often gives workshops on Professional Voice. "The voice workshop on 11/10 will have two main components. The first half will entail a lecture/discussion to provide information about the voice in general, how to maintain vocal health and minimize the likelihood of vocal injury, and how to recognize and combat early symptoms of voice problems. "The second half will be a participatory voice workshop that will include exercises to decrease muscle tightness in voice-related muscles, open the vocal tract to maximize its beneficial acoustic properties, and increase breath support. Exercises specific to maximizing vocal effectiveness while using voice recognition software will also be included." [quoted from KDeV] Note new room: To get there, go in the front door (77 Mass Ave.) and go straight down the Infinite Corridor for as long as you can. When you have to turn, go right. You'll pass a corridor to the libraries on your left (this intersection is distinguished by a mural of jungle animals), and immediately afterward you'll be in Building 2. Room 135 will be on your left. If you're coming from Mem Drive, Building 2 is on the right side of Killian Court. Please feel free to cross-post this notice.
