In this presentation, we'll discuss two evolutionary processes. The first process is how users evolve from using products that match their core competencies to products that go outside their competencies. You'll learn why certain tools, like wizards, only work for applications outside the user's core competencies and other tools, like macros, are only useful for products that match existing competencies. The second process is the evolution of products in the marketplace. You'll learn how priorities change based on the stage of evolution of your product's market, and how companies like Microsoft and Intel have succeeded by leveraging the evolutionary process. We'll also describe the forces that virtually killed once successful products, such as WordPerfect, DBase, and Lotus 1-2-3 and how your product can avoid their fates.
