Date: Sun, 15 Mar 1998 22:49:07 -0500 From: Steven Allen Subject: Boston Windows User Group March 23 Meeting Monday, March 23, 1998 - NOTE CHANGE IN SPEAKER TIME **************************************************** "MediaOne for Windows 9x and an Overview of FrontPage 98" ========================================================= Boston Windows User Group ------------------------- 7:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. Main Speaker at 7:10 --------------------- MediaOne's expanding Internet coverage now makes it accessible in the majority of our membership's areas. The Express offers by far the fastest practical current down and upload speeds for many of us, as well as the continuous Internet connection assumed in IE 4's metaphor. Will Biedron, MediaOne's Director for Northeast Broadband Communications, covers the evolution of cable broadband and how they multiplex and use switched packets; security and privacy; and the emerging standards. Will then compares their service with some other high-bitrate services. Because Will has to go to another meeting that evening, we have rescheduled him to early that evening, then Rick Zach's "Overview of FrontPage 98", and our Industry News and Q&A after that. We've asked Will to also give us insight into MediaOne Express's present and near future territory, the equipment in your home and method by which it connects to your computer. MediOne http://www.mediaone.com/express/northeast/files/home.html Location: Microsoft's Multipurpose Room, 6th floor, 230 Third Ave, Waltham, MA, which has Parking and has Wheelchair access. Bad Weather: Look at www.bwug.org for a change in the "traffic light" associated with the meeting - it's green for go, yellow for caution and red for cancel. Alternately call Microsoft NE's Events phone 800-448-9560, which would carry a cancellation announcement. Directions: Take Route 128/95 to Exit 27A. Go south on Third Ave passing between the north-bound 128/95 and the Westin Hotel. Reaching Third Ave requires a U-turn to the right from the 128/95 northbound exit or a "cross the overpass and turn right" from the 128/95 southbound exit. From Third Ave, turn left onto Fourth Ave immediately after the Westin. Go to end, turn right and follow signs for Prospect Place. Bear right at the fork and follow signs to Visitor Parking. Lobby is on second floor. ***************************************************************** ****** Join the speaker for a Dutch Treat Dinner. ****** ****** Meet us at Bertucci's Restaurant at 5:30. ****** ****** It's in the small strip mall diagonally across ****** ****** the 128/95 intersection with Winter St ****** ****** from the meeting location. In contrast to the announcement at our February 23rd meeting, this will be in our normal location and at the normal time. There is a possibility that we will revert to an earlier plan and have a Teach-In combined with product reviews. If you received a product with an obligation to review it, please think about taking the initial steps. ****** Future Events ****** Saturday, April 4, 1998, 1pm, Special Event ------------------------------------------- Microsoft eXtreme #2 Satellite Broadcast ======================================== In-depth Preview of Windows 98 and other Products ************************************************* This is again being sponsored locally by BWUG - see below.
