THREE QUICK HEADS-UP 1) March 17th FPUG meeting needs more pet tricks 2) New start-up Allaire/Cold Fusion user Group 3) New FrontPage Extensions released yesterday 2-24-98 Version 3.0.2.1330 ====================================================== 1) PET TRICKS The next Boston area FrontPage User group will meet on Tuesday 7PM 3-17-98 (St.Patrick's day) at Microsoft Waltham. The topic will be FrontPage pet tricks and WE NEED SOME MORE TRICKS. Although we have plenty that we can demo, frankly your speakers want to learn from what others have learned. We need additional playthings using Bots, shared boarders, includes, frames, Active-X toys, Java toys... you name it. Show us your stuff! This is intended to be a fun evening. Even truly stupid pet tricks are encouraged. If you have anything like this to contribute please, reply to this email or call Steve or Rick at 508-820-3000. 2) COLD FUSION With the support of Allaire in Cambridge, Steve Casco is starting up a new COLD FUSION user group in the Boston area. Cold Fusion is a simpler-to-use method of interfacing a database to your web pages. This is a >HOT< product! You will still need FrontPage to give you the WYSIWYG design environment, but Cold Fusion adds a wizard/macro-based coding environment to lessen the pain of creating feature-rich database connectivity. To see what ColdFusion is doing in the real world, see the Mass Dental Society's web page at http://www.massdental.org and look for any of their query-type web pages. By the way, this site's database work was a "first try" by >GRAPHIC ARTIST< Cathy Peterson and she is not a database guru... If you are interested in being placed on a mailing list to join the Cold Fusion User Group, send your email address to " scasco@websuperserver.net ". 3) New FrontPage Server extensions just released.... (clipboarded from today's MSFT email) IMPORTANT SERVER EXTENSIONS UPDATE FOR WINDOWS VERSION 3.0.2.1330 POSTED TO WEB 2/24/98 This update is designed primarily for Web Admins running the Server Extensions on Internet Information Server 4.0, but others hosting FrontPage extended webs on the Win32 platform will benefit from the update as well. If you are hosting FrontPage webs on the Win32 platform you should DEFINITELY download and install this update.
