Date: Fri, 12 Jun 1998 09:48:13 -0400 From: Dan Jacobs Subject: Next meeting: Tuesday, June 16, 7:00 - Java/XML Hi everybody. Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, June 16, 7pm, at the usual place (the IBM SPC in Waltham). More info at http://www.acm.org/chapters/webtech Once again, I'd like to invite anyone who's interested to gather for supper before the meeting. Just to give those of you who don't like Thai food a chance to join us, we'll try Thackery's in Waltham this time (the one on the corner of Totten Pond Rd. and Wyman St.), and order at 5:30. Let me know if you plan to come so I can get a table big enough. There are a couple of attached announcements later in this message, after the description of the feature presentation, separated by lines like this one. Read or ignore as you please. --------------------------------------------------------- Our feature presentation will be given by Bill LaForge from the Open Group Research Institute on a very interesting project called "Coins" that uses code-generation technology to translate between Java and XML. This is the kind of technology I want to be using within the next year, and I hope you'll find it interesting and useful. Abstract Coins is an extension of JavaBeans which uses generated code to serialize into XML. There are several advantages to this approach, mostly due to the fact that XML is readable text which is easy to parse. There's more information about the Coins project on-line at: http://www.jxml.com/coins/ --------------------------------------------------------- From: John Kendzior Subject: Harvard University Career Fair (Tuesday, June 16) To All Local Members: Harvard University cordially invites you to our first annual Career Forum.
