This is incorrect. The next meeting is *Monday, June 8*, (one day earlier). The meeting is at the usual time, though (6:30pm) and the usual location (MIT Bldg. E51 Room 345). We will be holding meetings on the second Monday of the month, instead of the second Tuesday, for at least the next several months in an effort to give more people the opportunity to attend. The speaker and topic of Monday night's meeting is still the same: David Boghossian of Story Street Partners, Inc., will talk about knowledge distribution on the Internet. Some information about Mr. Boghossian and his work is appended to the end of this message. As usual, more information about the meeting is available on the Web-Net Web site, http://www.web-net.org. If you have any questions about the meeting or other Web-Net activites contact Sudha Jamthe at sudha@web-net.org. See you Monday night! -------------------------------------------------------- Maximizing Value and Returns from Intranet Investments: Lessons from the Leading Edge The age of the Intranet is upon us. Our experience working with leading clients in the financial services, professional services and technology industries clearly shows that the corporate Intranet and Extranet will quickly become the dominant mode of communications, information gathering, knowledge sharing, and workflow support in all "information intensive" industries and processes. Research indicates that already well over 90% of employees in Financial Services firms have Internet access, over 70% regularly use the Internet to do their jobs, and over 90% of their firms have Intranets. All of these numbers are headed rapidly toward 100% penetration and usage. Spending on Intranets in 1997 was estimated at $3 billion and is expected to grow 50-80% per year. How do companies ensure that this money is well spent? How do you define and measure the value and, ultimately, the return on these investments? Having established that Intranets can add value to knowledge workers, how can projects managers and teams avoid the hype, focus on solutions, and show early successes in their development efforts? David Boghossian is a managing director of Story Street Partners, a leader in the development of integrated information resources for Financial Services, Professional Services and Technology clients. Using case studies and Story Street's proprietary methodologies, he will discuss his experience, methods, and "critical success factors" in building high-value, mission-critical Intranet and Extranet resources, including: * Getting started - how to pick a pilot and make it succeed * Building value to users - defining user needs and meeting them * Using "content objects" - leveraging pre-existing content products * Getting users to play along - the "one key thing" to get users on-line * Measuring results - the three ways to show value
