As usual, the location is Microsoft, 6th floor, 230 Third Ave., Waltham MA. Start times are at 7:00pm. Door-Prizes Held Over --------------------- As if the quality of the speakers were not enough, there is an extra incentive to attend. Last month's heavily attended meeting with FoxPro Product Manager was halted just before we were ready to wrap up because of a fire alarm. So we are giving away the door-prizes this month instead. Your odds should be better this month for winning the Visual Studio Enterprise Edition, t-shirts, or other product. Our New Web Site ---------------- We have a new Web site, donated by Rick Zach of Metrowest, and maintained by Harold Chattaway of Optimized Data Solutions. The URL is webss.com/vfpboston. We have some interesting plans for the site, and are interested in your suggestions too. The Web site will be the best place to check for last minute bulletins, such as meeting cancellations due to weather. The Two June Meetings --------------------- John Miller is on Thursday, June 18 on "Object Role Modeling." Object Role Modeling (ORM) is a technique for constructing a conceptual model of a system. Because an Object Role Model is conceptual, it is easier to explain an ORM model to non technical persons because the model is defined in terms that are familiar to the non technical person. A conceptual model is inherently more stable than a logical (object model, ER diagram) or physical model (VFP classes, database container) and is both less likely to change and easier to change. A conceptual model is isolated from the logical and physical implementations of a system and can be implemented in any language or data store. This session will introduce the basics of Object Role Modeling. A sample model will be introduced and techniques for deriving logical and physical models from the conceptual model explained. The benefits of ORM over other modeling techniques will be discussed and an overview of ORM tools presented. Tamar Granor is on Tuesday, June 30 on "VFP6 Language Enhancements." Each version of VFP adds to the command language and Visual FoxPro 6 is no exception. This session covers the latest additions to the programming language, including new objects, properties, events and methods, programming support for project management, new functions based on the FoxTools library, access and assign methods, and more. Find out how your life as a programmer just got easier. Bio: Tamar E. Granor, Ph.D., is Editor of FoxPro Advisor Magazine and co-author of its Ask Advisor column. Tamar is also co-author (with Ted Roche) of the Hackers Guide to Visual FoxPro 3.0 for Windows (Addison-Wesley). Tamar and Ted are hard at work on an updated Hackers Guide to Visual FoxPro 6, due this fall from Hentzenwerke Publishing. Tamar has been a speaker at numerous FoxPro conferences, including the last five Microsoft DevCons. She is an independent consultant specializing in applications using Microsoft FoxPro and Visual FoxPro. No FoxPro meeting on our regular night which would be June 24. Instead there will be a Microsoft Office meeting on "Long Documents Feature in Microsoft Word."
