Date: Mon, 20 Jul 1998 11:19:28 -0400 From: Steven Allen Boston Windows User Group July 27 Meeting Monday, July 27, 1998 --------------------- Continuous Speech Recognition Products ====================================== Boston Windows User Group ------------------------- 7:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. Speaker at 8:00 --------------------- Peter Fleming now has four such products running on his portable, vs. the two on which he reported at our November 1997 meeting - see the review on www.bwug.org. Lernout & Hauspie released their Voice Xpress products in April and Philips their FreeSpeech 98 in June. Both of these feature a Natural Language command set, promising greater flexibility in giving the program verbal commands. Peter Flemings, an independent consultant and writer in speech recognition, demonstrates and compares them with Dragon Systems' NaturallySpeaking and IBM's ViaVoice, which he has used for about a year. Also Mike Newcomb shows us how to hook into the information flow to obtain our individual news updates. Location: Microsoft's Multipurpose Room, 6th floor, 230 Third Ave, Waltham, MA, which has Parking and has Wheelchair access. Directions: Take Route 128/95 to Exit 27A. Go south on Third Ave passing between the northbound 128/95 and the Westin Hotel. Reaching Third Ave requires a U-turn to the right from the 128/95 northbound exit or a "cross the overpass and turn right" from the 128/95 southbound exit. From Third Ave, turn left onto Fourth Ave immediately after the Westin. Go to end, turn right and follow signs for Prospect Place. Bear right at the fork and follow signs to Visitor Parking. BWUG members report on their experience in Clean Install, Upgrade and, perhaps a system purchased with Win 98 preinstalled. We pool our experience to guide other members. Please let Steve Allen know at the 7/27 meeting and by email, ASAP, how you could contribute to this session. We're interested in your overall experience in installation and use, drivers you were missing (and if/how you obtained them), mishaps and quirks.
