From johnbarrie@compuserve.com Mon Jan 5 07:02:32 1998 Date: Sun, 4 Jan 1998 17:41:07 -0500 From: John Barrie To: "'mmurphy@world.std.com'" Subject: Jan 13 NESOFTDEV [The following text is in the "iso-8859-1" character set] [Your display is set for the "US-ASCII" character set] [Some characters may be displayed incorrectly] Hi Mike, Hope your holidays were just grand! Enjoy, John NOTICE: January 13 NESOFTDEV Monthly Meeting TIME: 6:00 -8:30 P.M. PLACE: Cafeteria at Prospect Place **** 1st Floor **** LOCATION: 9 Hillside Ave., Waltham exit 27a NEWS: *********************************************************************** It is our pleasure that people volunteer. It is our privilege that Ron Rinaldi has joined us. You have to love this one. Join us for each NESOFTDEV meeting Jan-June and watch this unfold (see below)! Tim has worked hard over the holidays to make our web site just right. BTD is now (Feb) an ISP specializing in Web Hosting and Enterprise Web Application Development. Our goal is nothing less than the highest quality of service. What with the big pipe the NESOFTDEV web site should rock - well, at least we have all of the ingredients. The rest is up to you. Right now the address is www.bustechdev.com/NESOFTDEV, but this will change to www.btdnet.com/NESOFTDEV/ in February. You can try out the old site before the meeting just to get a look & feel and because we want your opinion. Just remember the address and performance will change. I want you to get involved in this site. That means giving us your $.02. Congratulations go to Symantec for helping us out. Some members ran into pricing issues with our special offer (there were several promotions at the same time) and Symantec more than made up for any differences even going beyond my expectations. It is refreshing to have a corporation work with us and not have a hidden agenda. Java training will run from Jan through June. (Jan-Mar theme: "Java fundamentals" / Apr-June Theme: "Java Features"). Let people know! A sequential track exists throughout the sessions so block out the next 6 second Tuesday evenings. ************************************************************************ ****** MEETING: 6:00 P.M. Hal Miller Jacobs of Human Factors International Usability Testing We reviewed our web site (alpha) at the September Trade Show. Tim has made all of the changes you wanted plus we added several new features. Hal has agreed to do a second live usability engineering study of our web site (beta). This is real thing. So, if we need to do some more work we will. And, this is also the time for you to make suggestions and provide more feedback. Then we will be "On Air". 7:00 P.M. Ron Rinaldi A Game For Our Web Site Ron asked how he could contribute. So, I suggested that he build a real game for our web site using Java. As we are planning a Java Seminar I also suggested that it take on the characteristics of Jeopardy. Your success in answering the Jeopardy type of questions will give you an indication of what training you need at our upcoming seminar. We will help develop it at the NESOFTDEV meetings. 7:30 P.M. John Barrie Java Training Session One: The Fundamentals (1 of 3) WELCOME: Welcome Symantec for their support. We will be using Symantec Visual Café for Java in the training sessions each month.
