Date: Sun, 15 Feb 1998 19:31:20 -0500 From: Arnold Bilansky <71533.1031@compuserve.com> Subject: February meetings departs from its regular format. We welcome Rod Paddock, co-auhor of "Visual FoxPro 5 Enterprise Development" and "Hands-On VB5 for Web Development" for an "Introduction to ActiveX Data Objects (ADO)". ADO is Microsoft's key technology which will enable Universal Data Access. ADO will replace DAO and RDO. As vendors provide drivers for their products, you will not only be able to access ODBC data sources, but you will also be able to access and manipulate non-traditional collections of information such as e-mail. LAN or Internet, you need to know about ADO! Just as an indication of he importance of ADo to FoxPro developers, you should know that there will be a session on ADO and VFP at the May FoxPro DevCon. *********** We also meet on our regular fourth Wednesday of the month meeting night (7:00pm on Wednesday, February 26 at Microsoft, MA). Several people requested us to repeat Tim Roberts' presentation on "Multi-Tier Client/Server Development Using Stored Procedures." The examples use VFP and SQL/Server. Your wish is our demand! *** Also of interest *** I gave a brief "Microsoft Word Tips and Tricks" session at the January Windows 95 User Group meeting. It's common even for otherwise advanced PC users to be deficient in Word fundamentals. Key to using Word effectively is an understanding of "styles". In response to demand from for the Win95 group, the Thursday, February 19 Microsoft Office Group meeting goes back to fundamentals with a presentation of "Word Styles". Meeting starts at 7:00pm at Microsoft, Waltham. -Arnold
