Date: Mon, 3 Aug 1998 07:18:20 -0400 (EDT) From: Mary Hopkins Subject: MEETING TUESDAY 8/11, 7:30 PM Our next meeting of BVU will be Tuesday, August 11, 7:30 p.m., MIT 1-242. Our presenter will be Jill Geiger, a certified teacher of the Alexander Technique. This AT is a practical educational method, taught worldwide for over 100 years, which teaches how to regain the good neuromuscular "use" of ourselves with which we started out in life. Most people have acquired many habits of tension or "misuse" over the years which interfere with our innate good use. The AT teaches how to recognize & unlearn these habits making it possible to perform all of the activities of living (& working) with maximum ease, balance & poise and minimal tension & pain. Unlearning habits of tension typically addresses the underlying causes of chronic pain and often enables longterm relief of RSI symptoms. Jill will give a brief overview and hands-on demonstrations of the principles of the Alexander Technique, with a special focus on its implications for voice use. To get to the meeting: Go to the main door of MIT, 77 Mass Ave. Inside, take the first corridor on the right. When you pass the ship models, go upstairs and continue (you'll be walking almost to the corner of Mass Ave. and Memorial Drive). Room 242 will be on your left, before you reach the elevators.
