Date: Feb 02/10/14 10:29 AM Subject: [BBLISA-announce] February meeting: Matt Simmons on Solid State Disks From: "Adam Moskowitz" THIS WEDNESDAY, February 12th, 2014 MIT Building E-51, Room 149 7:00 - Introductions & announcements 7:25 - Drawing for door prizes 7:30 - Formal presentation Title: Solid State Disks Presenter: Matt Simmons Solid State Disks are a relatively new technology, but on the surface, seem to function exactly like traditional hard drives, only faster. The truth is that the underlying way they store and retrieve data are completely different - and understanding how and why can make the difference in making sure that your disks last much longer and maintain their performance. This talk is an adaptation of a tutorial presented at LOPSA-East 2013. Because of time constraints, we'll be sticking to the most relevant and interesting parts, and you will still be able to walk away with a much better understanding of how to use SSDs in your environment, and make well-informed purchasing choices. Matt Simmons is a 13+ year system administrator, blogger, and community organizer. He's currently serving on the Board of Directors of LOPSA, and as a program committee co-chair of LISA14.
