Date: Nov 11/16/13 6:32 PM Subject: [NatickFOSS.org] Events: Meeting 7PM THIS MONDAY, "Surveillance vs. Privacy in the Digital World, Part II" - and more From: "Dick and Jill Miller" Hi, FOSS friends: FOSS = Free, Open-Source Software [A Late Note: The final paragraph occurs first - tomorrow (Sunday) - and it is of national interest!] We really enjoyed Michael Terry's sneak preview of Ubuntu Touch, at our November FOSS User Group meeting, and hope you did, too! Occupy Natick's special on "Surveillance vs. Privacy in the Digital World, Part I", featuring Zak Rogoff of the Free Software Foundation, on October 21st, was another outstanding meeting about what we're about. We're on a roll! So, plan on another big-time event in Natick starting 7PM November 18th, this Monday night, when Occupy Natick and the American Civil Liberties Union of Massachusetts co-sponsor "Surveillance vs. Privacy in the Digital World, Part II", featuring Kade Crockford. Kade is Director of ACLUM's Technology for Liberty project; she will show excerpts from famous films, describe project initiatives, and welcome questions and comments. As usual, it's free. And if it cuts into your dinnertime, fear not; refreshments are free, as well. So be there (Sherrill Hall in St. Paul's Church, 39 East Central St., Natick. East end of Town parking lot; enter lot on Church Street) and bring friends! Meanwhile, whet your appetites with the 2-minute video, Ordering Pizza in 2015 Our December 5th FOSS User Group meeting is shaping up nicely, with extra attention to holiday gifts of a FOSS nature. For those who missed seeing the Ubuntu install with multi-boot and /home partitions in November because they were listening to Michael Terry instead, we'll also provide a quick recap of the most secret and spicy ingredients. Two days after that, the Boston Linux & Unix User Group hosts another Linux Installfest at MIT from 9-5 on Saturday, December 7th, including pizza and such. If your computer wants help or you want to help, flag that date, too! (Did computer programmers exist before pizza? Could computer programmers exist before pizza? :-) As usual, details on these meetings can be found at NatickFOSS.org. Just click on its "next meeting" link. But wait, there's more! I just learned that tomorrow, beginning 4PM Sunday, DemandProgress.tv will feature on-line, what I'll dub "Surveillance vs. Privacy in the Digital World, Part 1.9" - because it sounds like a great warm-up for the Monday-night meeting in Natick!. First, a preview of "The Internet's Own Boy", the Aaron Swartz documentary. Followed by the feature film, "Terms and Conditions May Apply," an eye-opening presentation of how corporations and the government are tracking your every move on the Internet. The screening is free for the first 3,000 visitors on 11/17 (first come, first served). See more about this national event, here.
