Date: Jul 07/30/13 5:52 PM Subject: [BNUG-News] BNUG Meeting Next Tuesday August 6 -- Flash Storage Architectures -- NE Rehab Woburn -- 6:45pm Sent By: Steve Isenberg Boston Network Users Group (BNUG) -- Monthly General Meeting -- FREE! ** Tuesday - August 6, 2013 6:30-8:30PM -- Speaker starts at 6:45pm ** THIS AUGUST: Nimble Storage and Flash-Optimized Storage Architectures **Presentation starts promptly at 6:45pm** This presentation will explore the evolution of storage architectures over the past 25 years, reviewing the technology inflection points and core business drivers that have propelled the transitions from direct attached to monolithic to modular storage solutions. We are at the beginning of the next major technology inflection driving enterprise storage. Solid State Drives (SSDs) promise to solve the performance challenges inherent in spinning disks, rendering traditional storage architectures obsolete. But SSDs by themselves are not the solution. The next decade will be dominated by storage architectures designed from the ground up to leverage the best characteristics of flash and disk. Will these new solutions be able to simultaneously deliver high performance and high capacity primary storage? And can they improve data protection, improving recovery point and recovery time objectives with far less cost and complexity About the speaker: Paul comes to Nimble after 5 plus years with Dell supporting New England. Prior to Dell, Paul spent 8 years with VMware, Xiotech, and Cisco supporting the New England customer base and partner ecosystem. He is a college graduate with a B.S. in Management from Bentley University in Waltham, MA, and upon graduation continued his development in IT engineering and management until joining Cisco in 2000. **Note that the speaker will begin promptly at 6:45pm and he needs to leave at 8pm.** Our thanks to Nimble and to Paul Frisoli for being willing to speak at this meeting on short notice! Where? We will be meeting at New England Rehabilitation Hospital on 2 Rehabilitation Way in Woburn, MA. Follow the signs to the Main Entrance -- there's a BNUG sign on the post. We'll meet in the NE room near the cafeteria. The receptionist can point you in the right direction; or follow the BNUG signs. Hungry? Refreshments are served from 6:30 pm (we'll try to be ready early this meeting due to the early start). Meeting starts at 6:45pm with the technical presentation concluding at 8:00 pm.
