From: Ted Roche Subject: [GNHLUG] CentraLUG, 5-May-2008: Ben Scott, The Linux Server That Could: Setting up a Small Office Server Date: Wednesday, April 23, 2008 8:03:41 AM The monthly meeting of CentraLUG, the Concord/Central NH GNHLUG chapter, happens the first Monday of most months at the New Hampshire Technical Institute's Library, room 146, at 7 PM. Next month's meeting is on May 5th at 7 PM. Directions and maps are available at http://www.centralug.org Open to the public. Free admission. Tell your friends. At this meeting, Ben Scott will present "The Linux Server That Could: Setting up a Small Office Server." About the presentation ====================== You don't need a rack full of equipment and expensive software to provide IT infrastructure for a modern small office. You can do it all with just one Linux server running on a computer you might already have. Ben will explain some of the many packages and features of Linux that can give a small office big-company functionality. This will include: * LAN infrastructure - DNS, DHCP, WINS * Internet gateway & firewall * Windows integration with Samba * File and printer sharing * Windows NT domain controller emulation * Network user logons and roaming profiles * Self-hosted email * Have email addresses at your own domain (you@example.com) * Network-based and shared mailboxes with IMAP * Web mail for access anywhere * Remote access with SFTP, SSH, and/or OpenVPN * Automatic backups with tar and/or rsync * And much, much more... This will mostly be a high-to-medium level overview, but will include some technical material, and -- with luck -- a live demo. About Ben --------- Ben is a local legend in the LUG community for his encyclopedic answers on a wide variety of computer-related Linux technologies. He's been a faithful volunteer at Hosstraders where he has burned hundreds of CDs over the year to help us distribute Linux distributions. He currently serves on the Greater New Hampshire Linux Group's Board of Directors.
