Free admission. Tell your friends. At this meeting, Bruce Dawson will be presenting on Low-power Linux machines. About the presentation ---------------------- Linux has always been able to run on a expanding variety of hardware, ever since maddog arranged for Linus to get a DEC Alpha. Linux has been ported to a variety of machine architectures. As chip densities increase and low-power CPUs increase in capabilities, the ability to run Linux, the GNU toolset and FOSS software on unconventional devices increase the opportunities for us to customize them for our own purposes. In this presentation, Bruce will show some of the work he has done with the LinkSys line of WRT54GL Linux programmable router/switch/WAPs and the NSLU series of network-accessible disk storage. Bruce will also introduce the Koolu platform and possibly the TINI Java computer. Bruce encourages attendees to bring their laptops so they can ssh in and interact with the devices. About Bruce ----------- Bruce is a farmer running Miles Smith Farm, and a semi-retired technologist. In the guise of Miles Smith Farmers, Bruce and Carole sell Scottish Highland and Angus beef raised on the farm, free-range, hormone- and antibiotic-free, and maintain an assortment of horses, cats and other residents. Tales from the farm can be found at http://www.milessmithfarm.net/ As a technologist, Bruce is supporting ongoing clients and Carole's Learning Networks Foundation, Bruce is a UNIX expert from way back, with 30+ years of experience and tales to tell from DEC, Compaq, and many others on a variety of operating systems, pre-press printing, CAD/CAM and even missile systems.
