To: "ABUG_Announce@brightworks.com" Subject:[Abug_Announce] Reminder :: Meeting Tomorrow :: Creating FOTOBlendr Date: Tuesday, September 11, 2007 8:14:58 AM Note that we're back in the Stata Center... Topic: Creating FOTOBlendr Presenters: Todd Prekaski http://www.simplifiedchaos.com Date: Wednesday, September 12, 2007 Time: 7:00 PM Cost: Free Where: MIT Stata Center, Room 124 http://whereis.mit.edu/map-jpg?selection=32&Buildings=go FOTOBlendr is "an application for quickly building photo collages with community shared templates" and is Todd Prekaski's entry in Adobe's AIR Derby contest. You can read more about it and see screenshots here: http://www.simplifiedchaos.com/2007/09/06/air-derby-entry-fotoblendr/ Todd will demo FOTOBlendr and discuss issues in developing AIR applications, strategies for setting up projects for both AIR and Web release in Flex Builder, and OO design patterns that aid in this. He'll also tout the one golden benefit of developing in Flex/Air: being able to have a limited functioning app available on the web for users to try without installation, and a full version that they can purchase and download, and show the code that does this in FOTOBlendr. Todd Prekaski has been building software since 1993 (not counting his youthful days programming an Apple IIc and TRS-80). Since then, he's gone on to work at Microsoft on early video streaming and commerce software. He worked for several failed startups (don't hold him accountable) during dot-com-boom, and since has been involved with enterprise development both in Java and .NET worlds at several Fortune 100/500 firms. He's recently arrived at the Adobe AIR/Flex technology, thinking it's going to be the Visual Basic of Mac OSX and WEB 3.0 development. You can read his occasional technology rant at http://www.simplifiedchaos.com. His brains are available for hire.
