John Dean, a speech pathologist, will demonstrate how he has adapted Dragon NaturallySpeaking to do all his documentation work in a hospital environment. Mr. Dean will discuss adapting software applications when possible as well as dealing with proprietary third-party EMR software which cannot be adapted. He will demonstrate using speech recognition with the tablet PC, Microsoft Word and Access, ADO, and discuss some considerations when using ActiveX controls. John Dean has been using speech recognition software since DragonDictate version 3. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a degree in Speech Language Pathology. Mr. Dean is currently working in a subacute care unit and has experience working in rehabilitation and acute-care hospitals. He has done research into vocal abuse and speech recognition software. Turn right and follow the corridor to room 2-135. You can also get in from building 14 (the library) or Building 8. For wheelchair access, there is a ramp and door to the left of the stairs at 77 Mass. Ave. (behind the bus stop) This entrance gives you basement level access to the elevator in Lobby 7 (the lobby at 77 Mass. Ave).
