From: Owen Hartnett Subject: [Submit] MacTechGroup Meeting Wednesday May 2 - "Processing" Date: Monday, April 23, 2007 10:47:34 PM MacTechGrp Meeting Wednesday May 2, 2007 7-9PM Room 315 Bldg E51 MIT Sloan School Next Meeting: May 2, 2007 7:00 PM Building E51 Room 315 Processing Omar Zaki Omar Zaki will be talking about Processing, a GUI prototype/application generator. Here's how Omar describes it: I will give a demonstration in the use of Processing, an open source programming language and environment, to rapidly create graphical prototypes or full-fledged graphical applications. I will go over the basics of using the Processing IDE, development of simple but visually complex graphical programs and simulations, the use of third-party libraries, and creating applets for web pages. Processing is not only a great environment to learn computer graphics, but it can be a very effective environment to teach programming in general. Anyone attending the meeting with a laptop will be able to walk out of the room with their own running program in hand. Here is a little blurb about Processing taken directly from the top of the processing.org website: Processing is an open source programming language and environment for people who want to program images, animation, and sound. It is used by students, artists, designers, architects, researchers, and hobbyists for learning, prototyping, and production. It is created to teach fundamentals of computer programming within a visual context and to serve as a software sketchbook and professional production tool. Processing is developed by artists and designers as an alternative to proprietary software tools in the same domain. Omar Branson Zaki is a self-proclaimed effort-saving technology enthusiast. He enjoys all programming languages that allow the developer (and end user) to accomplish more in less time. Recently, he has been learning Processing and Ruby. Omar teaches software professionally in addition to consulting and development work. Note: We will be taking the summer off - there will be no meetings in June, July, and August. We will be back with a regular meeting in September. Room note: We're in room 315 until September at least. ************************ You can get a map showing building E51 at The MacTechGrp always meets the first Wednesday of the month.
