From: Ted Roche Subject: [GNHLUG] CentraLUG, May 7th: Ben Scott and OpenWRT Date: Monday, April 23, 2007 09:14:52 PM The monthly meeting of CentraLUG, the Concord/Central NH GNHLUG chapter, happens the first Monday of most months at the New Hampshire Technical Institute's Library, room 146, at 7 PM. Next month's meeting is on May 7th at 7 PM. Directions and maps are available at http://www.centralug.org Open to the public. Free admission. Tell your friends. This month's, Ben Scott presents the OpenWRT firmware for the LinkSys WRT54G and similar routers. The focus will be on initial installation and configuration, and a general survey of capabilities, rather than a specific application. A live demo is planned. About the presentation ---------------------- OpenWrt is "a Linux distribution for embedded devices". In particular, it is commonly used as third-party firmware for the popular LinkSys WRT54G line of SOHO routers. OpenWrt provides a modular system for customizing the firmware (embedded software) for such devices. It can add everything from SSH to VPN to VoIP and more. http://openwrt.org In addition to the OpenWrt base package, X-Wrt and WebIf2 will also be covered. X-Wrt is a set of additional/updated packages for OpenWrt, which provide even more enhancements, with a particular focus on end-user experience. In particular, it provides WebIf2, an advanced web user interface for OpenWrt. http://x-wrt.org/ Ben will bring a LinkSys WRT54G device running stock firmware, and attempt to demonstrate the whole process of installing and configuring OpenWrt and X-Wrt. Come see Ben tempt the Live Demo Gods! About Ben -------------- Ben is a local legend in the LUG community for his encyclopedic answers on a wide variety of computer-related Linux technologies. He's been a faithful volunteer at Hosstraders where he has burned hundreds of CDs over the year to help us distribute Linux distributions. He currently serves on the Greater New Hampshire Linux Group's Board of Directors. More details on the group and directions to the meeting can be found at http://www.centralug.org and at http://www.gnhlug.org. Future Meetings --------------- Seth Cohn will present Drupal at our June 4th meeting -- not to be missed. The Tech's Library closes early in the summer, so the July and August meetings will be at a different location; stay tuned for details. _______________________________________________ gnhlug-announce mailing list gnhlug-announce@mail.gnhlug.org http://mail.gnhlug.org/mailman/listinfo/gnhlug-announce/
