PySIG meeting. Which is now... tomorrow, the 22nd of June. Cookies will be ready. I've received word that our speaker is not going to be able to make it because of summer commitments. However, I'd rather talk about Python than not talk about Python, so the meeting is still on. Ted and I will just have to eat all the cookies if no one else shows up. I'm just back from the Northeast Linux Symposium, which was Sunday, Monday, and yesterday in Bethel, Maine. I have stories from there, for those who are interested in Free software in education (which was the subject of the symposium), and some of the stories are about Python. In fact, one of the luminaries of Python in education, Jeff Elkner, will be at the NELS II coming up in July at UNH... And Tom Hoffman, of the SchoolTool project(*), gave a day's technical introduction. If I can figure out what it was we did to build and install it I'll be able to demonstrate SchoolTool tomorrow night. I was excited to see how much they've been able to get working already. (SISs are one of the areas where schools NEED Free software - the proprietary offerings are budget busters. And of COURSE the best SIS will be written in Python!) -Bill (*) SchoolTool: a School Information System (SIS), sponsored by Mark Shuttleworth (yes, THAT Mark Shuttleworth), written in Python. Tom Hoffman also will be at NELS II in July at UNH. http://schooltool.org _______________________________________________ Python-talk mailing list Python-talk@dlslug.org http://dlslug.org/mailman/listinfo/python-talk
