From: The Boston Access User's Group Subject: Access Day - Wednesday 6/21/06 (revised) Date: Monday, June 19, 2006 16:11:20 This is a reminder that Microsoft Access Day is this Wednesday 6/21/06. Location: Microsoft Corporation, 201 Jones Road, Waltham, MA 02451 (781) 487-6400 For directions and Map: http://www.microsoft.com/mscorp/info/usaoffices/newengland/waltham.mspx For additional information visit the Access Day web site: http://www.BostonAccessDay.com/ Due to a scheduling conflict, Russ Ganz is unable to conclude his ASP .Net presentation this month. Russ is slated to return in September to wrap up. Ed Craddock will present his Sand and Gravel Application at that time also. Pat Tormey has been on deck with two presentations for the group, and has graciously agreed to deliver them this month on short notice. Pat is a local .Net SQL developer and a founding member of the Boston Access User Group. He is a plethora of information. Consider buying him a beer after the meeting! If you are interested in making a presentation at an Access Developer's meeting, please contact our Event Coordinator Teresa DeLuca via the Boston Access Day web site at http://bostonaccessday.com/sched_new.cfm Here is the Agenda for Access Day: INTRODUCTION TO ACCESS ***************************************************************** Introduction To Access -- 9:30 AM - 12:00 PM Presented by: Dean Serrentino of Paradigm Information Systems, Inc. Get started building powerful database applications. See how to quickly and easily build Access forms and reports using built-in Wizards. We'll develop a comprehensive contact management application in just two and a half hours. INTERMEDIATE ACCESS ***************************************************************** A Case Study in Application Development -- 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM Presented by: Dean Serrentino of Paradigm Information Systems, Inc. Over the past few months, we've designed and began building a functioning Access application to perform a very specific task. Our application tracks the distribution of shellfish to restaurants and retail locations. In this session, we'll continue with development of our user interface. ***************************************************************** Access Trauma Center -- 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM Presented by: John Giuliano of Stone-Crowne Associates We'll spend two hours helping to debug, add enhancements, or make design recommendations. The audience is encouraged to bring in real world developer problems that need solving now. Bring your applications on floppy, CD, or Zip Disk. ACCESS DEVELOPER ***************************************************************** Introduction To SQL Server Part I -- 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM Presented by: John Giuliano of Stone-Crowne Associates This first part in the series will introduce the attendees to SQL Server. The following questions will be answered: What is SQL Server? How is it different from Access databases? Why would I want to use it? For this session we will use the version of SQL Server that ships with Access 2002 and 2003, version 2000. (Yes, it's right there on the disk!) We will demonstrate installation and using Access Project files to perform table and query design. In future sessions we will work with SQL Server 2005 and the tools that are available to manage it. The focus of this series is to enable Access developers to design client-server applications using Access as the user interface. ***************************************************************** General Announcements and Forum -- 6:00 PM - 6:30 PM Presented by: John Giuliano of Stone-Crowne Associates Share information regarding upcoming events, Access bugs, add-on products, and anything else that affects the world of the Access developer. ***************************************************************** UML Use Cases with Visio -- 6:30 PM - 7:00 PM Presented by: Pat Tormey of Foursquare Solutions Inc Pat demonstrates how to get a handle on Design Specifications and Client Expectations using UML (Unified Modeling Language). UML is a tool for system modeling which does not require the writing of any code. Using Visio's implementation of UML, Pat will demonstrate how to convert written, verbal, and often confusing software specifications into a pictorial design spec that completely encapsulates the requirements in a model that anybody can understand and maintain. ***************************************************************** VB 2005 for Access Developers -- 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM Presented by: Pat Tormey of Foursquare Solutions Inc Visual Basic 2005 may be your best upgrade option from MS Access. To sweeten the deal, the VB 2005 Express and SQL Express editions are free. Pat is going to give us a look at building a complete application using SQL Express, VB 2005 and "Click Once" deployment, from an Access developers point of view. You'll find that what you already know still applies and there's a lot less coding involved than you might think!
