From: "Ben Scott" Subject: [GNHLUG] SLUG (UNH) - Mon 11 Dec - GDM and KDM, esp. themes Date: Thursday, November 30, 2006 10:16:26 What : Customizing your logon - GDM and KDM themes (and more?) Who : Rob Anderson, members Day : Mon 11 Dec 2006 Time : 7:00 PM Where: Room 301, Morse Hall, UNH, Durham, NH This December, SLUG will be exploring customization of GDM and KDM, with a focus on themes. Rob will be presenting how to find, install, and modify themes for both. Depending on time and interest, we may also look at general configuration. What are GDM, KDM, XDM? ----------------------- XDM = X display manager xdm = The original XDM implementation GDM = GNOME display manager KDM = KDE display manager These days, an XDM's major purpose is to present the graphical login screen you see when a Linux computer finishes starting up. Both GNOME and KDE provide full-featured, customizable, themeable XDMs. You can change how they look and how they act. This is mainly about aesthetics, of course, but aesthetics are still important. And it isn't all eye candy. Maybe it's a corporate computer or a kiosk, and you want a company logo. Maybe you want an auto-logon or a face browser. Or maybe you're just tired of looking at the Fedora logo. About SLUG ---------- SLUG is the Seacoast Linux User Group, and is a chapter of GNHLUG, the Greater NH Linux User Group. Rob Anderson is the SLUG coordinator. SLUG meets the second Monday of every month, same time, same place. You can find out more about SLUG and GNHLUG at the http://slug.gnhlug.org/ and http://www.gnhlug.org/ websites. Meetings take place starting at 7:00 PM. Meetings are open to all. The meeting proper ends around 9ish, but it's not uncommon to find hangers-on there until 10 or later. They take place in Room 301 (the third floor conference room), of Morse Hall, at the University of New Hampshire, in Durham. _______________________________________________ gnhlug-announce mailing list gnhlug-announce@mail.gnhlug.org http://mail.gnhlug.org/mailman/listinfo/gnhlug-announce/
