From: Colin Godfrey Subject: [Submit] SIGGRAPH Boston Planning Meeting 8/22 6:30 pm Date: Friday, August 11, 2006 00:48:20 SIGGRAPH Boston Planning Meeting Aug 22 6:30 pm We will be meeting at BNN (Bob Lamm's workplace) in the Transportation building at the corner of Tremont and Stuart St. (near the Wang theater). http://www.bnntv.org/pages/direction.html We have a substantial list of potential speakers and events. We need to divide up responsibility for particular dates and work on venues. All are invited, please come and help us plan for an exciting year of SIGGRAPH programs! Here is a partial of list of potential speakers: VJ Chris Korda http://whorld.org/ to talk about his realtime visualization software John Lester of Linden Lab pathfinderlinden.com Andrew Borg of http://hi-beamentertainment .com/ also in the VJ space I have 3 DVD's we can show. Two animation and the ET. I'm thinking we could do one or two shorts to open the meetings some times. I talked to Wolfram (mathmatica) and there could be a chance of getting Stephan Wolfram at some point. I have been talking(emailing) to Terrence Mason this years ET chair for a couple years. He had offered to give a presentation earlier and will one day. But I met him briefly so we may have a full HD presentation. [Bob] I talked to folks at both Mercury Computer Systems and Sensable Technologies and they are interesting. I have contact info to follow up. Great Eastern's Brad Porter expressed interest in a presentation. A speaker from the Boston Police spoke at the conference on forensic 3D usage. He was connected to Great Eastern. Potential speaker from out of town: The ACM has a new/revitalized program of Distinguished Speakers where they cover speaker transportation and fees. Brad Lawrence from NASA would like to come up but we would need to help him with travel expenses. He directs one of the teams that analyses the high speed videos from the shuttle launch. He is chair of the Ft Lauderdale chapter. David Geshwind has developed some tech to convert 2d to 3d images. He is also involved with patent technology. He's in New York so it may not be too hard to get a visit. Traveling Art Show: George Fiefield expressed interest in helping us find a location for the show during the CyberArts event in the spring. This is dependent on the schedule but worth investigating. ************************************************************************ SIGGRAPH/Boston Contacts WWW: http://www.siggraph.org/chapters/boston SIGGRAPH/Boston maintains a mailing list for e-mail announcements of meetings.
