As in past years, because of the proximity to Thanksgiving and Christmas
we are not planning to meet in November or December.
October meeting agenda:
Kip Dole explains how easy it is to write a Sql Server Stored procedure
(T-SQL).
Says Kip "It always seemed rather intimidating to me until I tried.
I will take you through the steps I followed in creating my first stored
procedure which posted
interest for a customer of ours.
Some of the advantage of writing stored procedure, which you probably know
include:
- Speed
-Ability to roll back transactions in the event of a crash. ( I know this works
in vfp as well )
-This stored procedure can be call from any front end, you would only have to
write the code once.
-Getting a new job, your future employers may be looking for this ability.
-Sometimes setting up test data can be tricky. All you have to do is issue a
"rollback transaction"
instead of "commit transaction" after having viewed your results and your data
will
be set back to its original state.
-I can show you how I call this stored procedure from Sql Server or vfp.
-I can show you a few other VFP functions we use with Sql Server you may find
helpful as well.
-If you know how to write stored procedures please share your expertise with us
as well."
Kip does not have SQL Server on his laptop. So, unless someone can bring
along a notebook with MS SQL server on it the presentation will be
be facilitated with code listings and screen shots. If any of you can
help by bringing along a notebook with SQL and VFP along please contact
Kip directly at kipdole@gmail.com.
I (Arnold) still am without a vehicle after my auto accident. Unless someone can
give me a
lift from Brighton at about 6:30pm on Wednesday, I will not be able to get to
the meeting.
If anyone thinks that they would be able to give me a lift please send me an
e-mail to
arnoldbilansky@cs.com by early tomorrow (Monday), and if you can include
a phone number I can reach you at during the day tomorrow.
If I can get to the meeting, I do have a tablet with SQL and VFP on it.

Some of you may remember Ken Murphy who co-presented at a meeting some
time back on using Fox with Satellite Forms.
Ken has a new project and was thinking about purchasing xCase and one of the
frameworks:
Visual FoxExpress, Pro Matrix, etc.
If anyone is currently using these tools and can give him some advice
he requests to be contacted at Ken@MurphySoftware.net

You should be aware that I do not permit messages to be posted directly
to our mailing list. And I normally do not even read posting attempts
since almost all of it is spam. However, by chance I happened to pick this
message from the list which appears to be legit. So I am passing it along. -ab

I think we met thru Garett Fitzgerald years ago (he's been on the VFP
team since he left here about 7 years back). We've been a VFP shop

Looking for one motivated, self-directed, talented, individual. (We're
not asking too much, are we?)
Our company develops/supports/sells "HI-IQ", the industry-standard
Interventional Radiology software.
We are a Microsoft triple-gold partner, and have been in business for
over 60 years.
We are looking for a savvy VFP developer with excellent ASP.NET skills
(VB or C#) to join our team in northern RI. Excellent working
conditions; great development resources (we already employ over a dozen
developers); good benefits. We are owned by a major medical society,
thousands of users use our applications daily... in hospitals across the
world.
If you are interested in 'touch-screen' technology; handheld apps; and
consider yourself an ergonomic connoisseur, you might want to check us
out. (For background, see www.HI-IQ.com , www.unicom-inc.com

Windows Mobile (Compact Framework) and SQLserver skills a plus.
Excellent communication skills mandatory
