    Traditionally, the primary SoHo networking applications are
    disk, printer, and internet connection sharing in an Ethernet
    wired environment.  The popular adoption of wireless local
    area networks (wLAN), pre-configured small internet gateway
    routers, "always-on" cable and DSL connections, and novel
    applications like Voice-over-IP (VoIP) have created a whole
    new set of issues, opportunities and dangers for the users
    of SoHo networks.

    In addition, the maturing of open-source software and the
    Linux operating system are providing new alternatives to
    the conventional Microsoft Windows desktop.

    Join us for this month's BNUG general meeting and learn how
    experienced network professionals set up, configure and operate
    SoHo local area networks to maximize performance, to minimize
    security risks, and to take advantage of the latest technology.

    The presentation will consist of four key topics:

                [*] Introduction to SoHo networking
                [*] Locking down wireless networks
                [*] Alternate applications
                [*] Anti-virus and anti-spam protection

     So come to Carlson Auditorium at Mount Ida College on Tuesday,
     May 10th to hear an expert overview of the of these topics
     from several of New England's most knowledgeable networking
     experts.

     Refreshments are served from 6:30 pm.  Meeting starts at 7:00pm
     with the technical presentation concluding at 9:00 pm.
