Abstract: A culture of discipline with an ethic of entrepreneurship; can CMMI and Agile methods coexist? Brooks Software is a leading provider of real-time enterprise applications and automation solutions for collaborative and complex manufacturing environments. Our products and solutions deliver competitive advantage to many of the world's Fortune 500 manufacturers in aerospace & defense, automotive, high tech, life sciences and semiconductor manufacturers worldwide. As part of Brooks Software's commitment to Quality and Process Improvement, adoption of leading Software Engineering methods is an ongoing strategic element in Brooks's software operations. CMMI is a cornerstone of Brooks strategy. However while customers are demanding CMMI compliance as a measure of confidence in your organization's capability, developers have embraced Agile methods and are seeing results. This presentation will provide insight into how one company is realizing CMMI, Agile methods and other leading process trends to coexist to meet stringent process and quality requirements as well as enablers for ongoing process improvement. This presentation looks at CMMI and Agile from a commercial software supplier perspective. The presentation will outline the aspects of cultural change, lessons learned and industry trends and provide real-world examples of the application of these trends in a leading software supplier. About the Roundtables: Roundtables are focused group or "birds-of-a-feather" discussions, with a Facilitator to stimulate and moderate discussion. These discussions are held during the Networking portion of the SPIN meeting, before the speaker. Choose the topic of your choice, but come early. The Facilitators will determine the number of participants, and "first come, first served." 1. "Agile Methods and CMM/CMMI" Facilitator: Donna Johnson * Are agile methods and the CMM/CMMI models in conflict? * Have organizations been able to marry the two methodologies without defeating the advantages of each methodology? * Under what environments are these methodologies best applied? Participate in a lively discussion of these questions in this roundtable. Come discuss your experiences with the methodologies and provide your outlook and adventures using both methodologies singly or together. 2. "Sharing Experiences with Mobile Applications" Facilitator: Ron Kay 3. "Project Estimation and Deadline Management" Facilitator: Nancy Van Schooenderwoert Please join us for these discussions and share your experiences and challenges with other software professionals from New England.
