Date: Tue, 1 Feb 2005 11:44:08 -0500 (EST) From: nejug.bos.us Subject: NEJUG February 10th Meeting Announcement This message is going out to all NEJUG members . . . The next NEJUG meeting will be held on Thursday February 10th at 6:00pm at the Sun Campus in Burlington, where Vic Bahl and Perley Mears will give us updates on the two of the most recent Sun Java technologies, Java Enterprise System (JES) and Java Desktop System (JDS), respectively. Overview: Java Enterprise System We'll look at the Sun Java Enterprise System, JES, a stack of software infrastructure containing Directory, Identity Management, Web and Application servers and a Portal server as well as the integration of Sun Java development tools providing a design, develop to deploy story. The Sun Java Enterprise System is a software infrastructure stack that's compelling from both a business as well as technical perspective. >From a business perspective, it allows businesses to deal with software licensing in an entirely new manner, one that's simple and straight-forward and highly economical. Technically, JES provides an integratable stack of major S/W components that any enterprise needs to provide secure, personalized access to Web services as well as a means to aggregate and integrate content and services. Major components of the stack include a Directory server, Policy engine for authorization, Web and Application servers and a Portal server. Additionally, tools based on the Open Source Netbeans IDE allow for the design, creation, testing and deployment to the JES stack providing for an end-to-end experience. Java Desktop System We will review Sun's Java Desktop System, including the Open Source components that make it up, a demonstration of it in use, and it's value for enterprises, developers, and users. We will also demonstrate Project Looking Glass, a 3D desktop environment, and Sun Creator (A.K.A. Project Rave), a Web Services IDE designed for the non-programmer. About the speakers: Vic Bahl is a S/W Technical Specialist in the Sun Partner Technology Office. Vic is a S/W and Java Ambassador as well.
