Date: Fri, 1 Oct 2004 10:36:07 -0400 (EDT) From: nejug.bos.us Subject: NEJUG October 14th Meeting Announcement - 'Struts in Action' Author This message is going out to all NEJUG members . . . The next NEJUG meeting will be held on Thursday October 14th at 6:00pm at the Sun Campus in Burlington, where Ted Husted, the author of "Struts in Action" will give a presentation titled "Struts: Past, Present, and Future, and the Impact of JSF". Overview: An Insiders View of Struts (session one) - Struts is the defacto standard framework for Java web applications, but where did it come from, and where is it going? Who makes the decisions? What's on the roadmap? How can we help? And what about JavaServer Faces? Friend or foe? This session discusses the "nuts and bolts" of Struts development. Come and see how the sausages are made. :) Struts Petstore (session two) - Struts has always shipped with a simple example application. But for many teams, MailReader is a bit too simple. Struts Petstore is a full-featured, production-grade Struts application inspired by the infamous JPetstore. Struts Petstore uses a professional architecture that hooks up to Apache iBATIS for data access. Let's have a look ... About the speaker: Ted Husted is a developer, author, and mentor. He is an Apache Software Foundation Member and a charter member of the Struts Project Management Committee. Ted is also the ASF "shepherd" for MyFaces and iBATIS, two of the latest additions to the Foundation. Ted's books include JUnit in Action, Struts in Action, and Professional JSP Site Design. He has consulted with teams throughout the United States, including CitiGroup, Nationwide Insurance, and PepsiCo. Ted is currently working with the Oklahoma State Department of Environmental Services to improve their permitting system. For more information about the meeting, please go to: http://www.nejug.org/next.jsp To register, please go to: http://www.nejug.org/meetingRegistration.jsp Notice of a change to Sun's NEJUG Meeting registration process: ========================================================================== Please note that at the August meeting we were informed that Sun was implementing a new process for meeting registrations that was required of all vendors doing work for the US General Services Administration (GSA). We are now required to collect valid first name, last name, and employer name for each registrant (if you don't have an employer, a value of "Self" should be used), which we will forward to Sun approximately 48 hours before the meeting. Sun will take this file and run each registrant's name through the same government security check that is used when a person enters a Sun building. This will allow them to not run this check on each person individually when they enter the building and let us all get to our seats faster. As a result of this change, you'll notice the format of the registration page has changed. When you enter the building, your ID will be checked against the registration list (I suggest entering your name on the registration with the same spelling as it appears on your ID). In addition, as a condition to admission to the premises of Sun Microsystems, you will be asked to sign a nondisclosure agreement (the same red and white card they've had us sign in the past) when you obtain your visitor badge. This is a security requirement to protect Sun property and to comply with US Export laws.
