From: "Colin Godfrey" Subject: SIGGRAPH/Boston at SensAble Technologies, Wed Nov 10. Date: Thursday, November 04, 2004 2:03 AM SIGGRAPH/Boston Meeting Announcement Haptics at SensAble Technologies Wednesday 10 November 2004 What if you could touch someone else's skin across the internet? What if you could actually feel the force of an opponent striking you in a computer game? What if you could teach dental students with computer simulations - where they feel the touch of their various instruments against a virtual patient's teeth or gums? What if you could analyze the stickiness of a surface to improve product safety? What if you could model a new auto interior with digital clay, feeling surfaces as you sculpt, doing hundreds of iterations as quickly as you used to create one design in real clay? SensAble Technologies, Inc (STI) is transforming these possibilities into reality. We are changing the human-computer interface by incorporating the sense of touch to bring new and extensible capabilities to the computing experience. We do this by providing hardware and software that enable users to touch and manipulate virtual objects within 3D applications. STI supplies the devices and, more importantly, the software in the form of both Software Development Kits for use by software developers and Applications for use by end users in a number of different markets. You're invited to see this transformation in person at SensAble in Woburn MA near the intersection of Rte 128 and Rte 93. We'll be showing our haptic (force feedback) devices & toolkits, and 3D design applications. We'll walk you through how ordinary computer graphics programmers can easily utilize the power of haptics in creating new applications or enriching existing ones. We'll show the incredible speed available for 3D design tasks by leveraging our voxel data structures and haptics. Come experience the power of haptics! Time: Wednesday 10 November 2004 6:30PM to 8PM Networking at 6:30 pm, presentation at 7 pm.
