This message is going out to all NEJUG members... I apologize for the delay in getting this announcement out. Please note there has been a change in the speaker and topic for the May 13th NEJUG meeting. Howard Lewis Ship and his presentation on Tapestry have been moved to June 10th. The next NEJUG meeting will be held on Thursday May 13th at 6:00pm at the Sun Campus in Burlington, where Brian Sletten will give a presentation called "Introduction to Aspect-Oriented Programming": This talk will provide a high-level overview of the emerging practice of aspect-oriented programming (AOP) as a way of building modern software systems by keeping cross-cutting concerns appropriately modularized (don't worry, this mantra will be explained). AOP is an evolution from the successes of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) and Design Patterns, not a revolution. The focus will be on AspectJ and Java-based AOP, but a quick survey of other techniques, languages and resources will be presented. About the speaker: Brian Sletten is a software consultant and the founder of Bosatsu Consulting. He has a strong background in software design, visualization, advanced user interfaces and distributed computing. He was a key architect of Parabon Computation's Internet distributed computing platform and has spoken twice at JavaOne. For more information about the meeting and to register, please go to http://www.nejug.org/next.jsp My apologies for the change in topic and the delay in getting the announcement out. Here is the short version of the story: About 4 weeks ago, Sun had agreed to have James Gosling speak at the May 13 meeting, so we canceled Howard Lewis Ship so that James could speak. However, with Jonathan Schwartz's promotion to President of Sun during the 1st week of April, in mid-April James was called upon to fill some of Jonathan's previous commitments. This caused him to have to cancel his speaking tour, which included the May 13 NEJUG meeting. In the meantime, Howard Lewis Ship made other plans and was no longer available to speak. It took until yesterday for us to locate another quality speaker for the May 13 meeting (special thanks to Jay Zimmerman from the No Fluff Just Stuff Conference for locating and sponsoring the speaker). The good news is that we have an excellent speaker for May, Howard has rescheduled to June, and Sun is trying to reschedule Dr. Gosling for either our August or November meeting. I hope to see you at the May 13th meeting.
