Date: Wed, 7 Jul 2004 13:28:24 -0400 From: events@bostondotnet.org Subject: Boston .NET User Group July 14th Meeting: Unit Testing and Security Best Practices Wednesday of next week we will have the following at our regularly scheduled meeting: 5:00 p.m.: New Technology Study Group: Unit Testing and Test-Driven Development in .NET (Chris Bowen) Register This session will give a practical introduction to .NET unit testing and the benefits of Test-Driven Development (TDD). It will familiarize developers with writing effective unit tests and the usage of tools such as NUnit, NUnitAddin and others. The session will also briefly highlight the unit testing features coming with Visual Studio 2005 Team System. Time permitting, other topics such as code coverage, mock objects and continuous integration will be introduced. 6:30 p.m.: Secure Coding: Best Practices (Robert Hurlbut) Register Security is important to nearly every company, but security can never be an add-on to an existing product. Developers need to be aware of common security threats, and they need to follow best practices for developing secure code. This presentation will introduce security topics such as checking data input, buffer overruns, Cross-Site Scripting, SQL injection, and the Rule of Least Privilege. Upcoming Events: In August we will have Deborah Kurata speaking about the best kept secrets in .NET. This is a special event since she will be interrupting her vacation just to come speak to us, and is a golden opportunity to hear one of the true stars of the development world. In September Jeff Prosise will come to speak to us about power programming in ASP.NET 2.0. He will go beyond the umpteen presentations we have all already seen about ASP.NET, and share with us the inside scoop about the features in 2.0 that we will all want to know about. Other News Items The Vendor Night Organizing Committee is looking for volunteers that can contribute time over the coming months to organize our Vendor Night for later this fall. This will include periodic organizational meetings at the MSFT office and various tasks like contacting vendors, organizing food, etc. If you can volunteer to help organize this great event please email Chris Pels at cpels@bostondotnet.org .
