"Alexander Technique and the Voice" Tuesday, January 13, 7:30 PM MIT, Room 2-142 (directions below) Raewyn Haywood, an instructor of Alexander Technique, will be discussing the principles of the Alexander Technique, what is involved in learning it, and how the work can be beneficial to those suffering voice problems. The Alexander Technique was developed in the late 19th century by F.Mattias Alexander, an Australian actor who overcame hoarseness and respiratory problems through his own discoveries about the coordination of the human body and mind. He realized that the habitual overuse of tension throughout the body contributed greatly to the problems with his larynx. He went on to develop a teachable method of improving muscular coordination which allows everyday activities such as walking, sitting and speaking to be carried out with ease and freedom.
