From: "Jonathan A. Duke" Subject: BMac-Feb 2004-Graphics Primer Date: Monday, February 09, 2004 10:41 AM IMPORTANT! This message has been blind-carbon-copied to you. Do not reply-to-all or forward it without the author's permission. This month we a two special events: A celebration of the 20th birthday of the Macintosh, complete with refreshments. and Computer Graphics: The Big Picture Ever wonder why there are so many different graphics programs, file formats, and occupations, and how they all relate to each other? For BMAC's meeting on Wednesday, February 11, Lawrence San will give an overview of graphics applications, data types, file formats, and people, and the connections among them. Which kind of artists use Photoshop, and which use Illustrator, and why? What about FreeHand, Canvas, QuarkXPress, InDesign, DreamWeaver, GraphicConverter? And file formats -- what's the deal with JPEG, GIF, TIFF, PSD? Obviously, in one session we can't cover all these things in depth, but that's okay -- the focus will be on underlying concepts, rather than on feature demos (although some of the concepts will be demonstrated in programs such as Photoshop and Illustrator). There's a good chance you'll be able to apply this stuff to almost any future graphics apps (or artists, or projects) you may encounter. Designed primarily for non-artists, this presentation may fill in a few holes even for graphics pros. San has about thirty years' experience in the graphic arts, so bring your questions! And, of course, we'll have some special give-aways! We'll see you there! Now for the pertinent info: Date: February 11, 2004 Time: 7:00 PM Place: MIT campus, building E51, Room 335.
