I hope you've had a great summer so far. It's hard to believe we've gone almost 2 months without a NEJUG meeting ! First, I would like to thank Howard Lewis Ship for his presentation to the NEJUG on Thursday June 10th, titled "Creating Powerful Web Forms with Tapestry". Special thanks to Jay Zimmerman from the New England Software Symposium for sponsoring Howard. The slides from Howard's presentation can be viewed at: http://www.nejug.org/2004/jun04.jsp The next NEJUG meeting will be held on Thursday August 12th at 6:00pm at the Sun Campus in Burlington, where 3 JavaOne participants from Sun will give an overview of this June's JavaOne Conference. If you were unable to attend JavaOne, this will be a great opportunity to see and hear a summary first-hand. Meeting Overview: 1. JavaOne 2004 - Overview, Themes and Impressions The 3 speakers will give brief overviews/impressions of the conference 2. JDK 5.0 - New language features, important JSR's, API's 3. JDK 5.0 Performance - tools available to help developers evaluate and solve performance problems 4. Ease of Development initiatives (JNDC etc.) 5. Creator Demo - Brief overview of the underlying technology (JSF etc). About the speakers: Vic Bahl has been at Sun 13 years, initially as part of Sun Professional Services. His background is in Software Development, having designed and implemented projects at Kodak, Calspan and Bell Aerospace-Textron, ranging from high-speed printing to air defense systems to gravitational sensors prior to coming to Sun in 1991. He currently is a Software S.E. at Sun Microsystems. Bruce Brown is a Senior Systems Engineer with Sun Microsystems specializing in Aerospace Accounts. Bruce has 10 years of experience supporting aerospace software engineers. Prior to joining Sun, Bruce worked as a lead software engineer developing real-time embedded systems for Lockheed Martin. Rinaldo DiGiorgio is an Advanced Development Engineer at Sun Microsystems. Rinaldo has several patents in the area of Digital Commerce, application of Java Card technology and Web Services-like infrastructure.
